Brides before steins
Oktoberfest was an event that celebrated the marriage of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen in 1810.
Racing to the finish
The original Oktoberfest was hosted in Munich and horse racing was a main event –not drinking!
To the locals, Oktoberfest is known as “Wiesen”, today it’s a 16-day festival and is celebrated across the world as a fall festival of food, fun, and of course, beer!

This year, Kingsport Oktoberfest will feature five widescreen TVs to watch college football under tents in case it’s pouring rain –not just beer! More than two dozen artisans will be exhibiting their wares, while a Kids Zone will be fully stocked with family-friendly activities for all ages including face painting, inflatables, German dance lessons, crafts, and ladder toss.
Bavarian cuisine and American fare will be available while If Birds Could Fly, Wise Old River, and Treehouse play on the main stage. Also returning this year is the ‘Brat Trot’ Wiener dog race. Watch as these pups adorably face off to win the race and carry the title until next year!
