What can I say– Halloween is most definitely my favorite holiday!
I think the reason I look forward to Halloween every year is that there’s always so much to do in Kingsport. The fun starts with the Kingsport Halloween Bash, which just happens to be the Tri-Cities biggest Halloween Party.
This year the big event is on Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Farmer’s Market and it goes from 6 p.m. until midnight – when all the ghosts and goblins are out and about. Seriously, I cannot wait! Not bragging or anything but I usually have a pretty great costume. Wonder if you will recognize me.
It’s not just about the costume contest though (where you can pocket a cool $1,500 if you win), there’s also live music, food trucks, games, beer, and a perfect night to take your “Boo” with you! Can you tell I’m excited? Yep.
But that’s not all…There’s also the Witches Wynd at Exchange Place, which has the perfect atmosphere for this event. Don’t miss this annual treat happening Oct. 27-28 at 8 pm on both evenings. The old buildings are so mysterious after hours, and once the storytelling starts things get a little creepy.
Witches Wynd is one of my favorite traditions. You divide up into groups and the lead ghoul, otherwise known as your host, takes a lantern and tells five terrifying stories, each one relating to the last. I have to tell you it gets better and more nerve-wracking every year.
Something else I love is heading out to Cleek Farms to try my luck at the corn maze. If you’ve never ventured into a corn maze at night – and you love Halloween – you gotta try Flashlight Night on Fridays and Saturdays this month. There are also hayrides, food, a play area for kids, and lots of pumpkins you can buy.
And while we’re on that topic, there is plenty of the other kind of seasonal spirits available at Sleepy Owl Brewery, Hook and Ladder Distillery and Gypsy Cider Company… you can’t go wrong with these spirits.
As you can see there’s plenty to do this weekend in Kingsport if you’re into Halloween. And if you’re looking for something else to make your skin crawl, you really need to read “Haunted Kingsport.” There are all sorts of stories in that book about the ghost of Netherland Inn Road and all the crazy happenings that have taken place at Rotherwood Mansion, just to name a couple. Even if you don’t believe in ghosts, after you read this you might!
Signing off (with an evil laugh…muhahaha),
