There’s always something going on in Kingsport but in July the fun level reaches a whole new level with Fun Fest.

Every summer since 1981 Kingsport has transformed itself into a mecca of entertainment, a nine-day party that has become one of the most successful and longest-running festivals in Tennessee.

Created by city leaders with the sole objective of promoting unity, harmony, fellowship, and cooperation among people in the greater Kingsport area, it didn’t take long for Fun Fest to grow into one of the largest and most anticipated festivals in the state each year.

Held each July, Fun Fest truly has something for everyone, which is one of the many reasons everyone circles the dates on their calendars, counting down the days until it kicks off. What makes Fun Fest such a tremendous draw? Well, with more than 100 events held at over 60 locations in and around Kingsport it’s no surprise that crowds top out in excess of 100,000 every year.

Fun Fest isn’t only popular with locals as visitors from 27 states have attended the festival over the years. In recent years, the festival has welcomed visitors from 110 cities in Tennessee, more than 80 in Virginia, 40 in North Carolina, and 30 in Kentucky.

And what about all of those events? The music has always been a highlight, culminating with the Sunset Concert Series which has seen talents such as Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, Willie Nelson, Wynonna, Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Josh Turner, The Charlie Daniels Band, The Band Perry, Little Big Town, Zac Brown Band, The Oak Ridge Boys, The Pointer Sisters, Doobie Brothers, Glen Campbell, and many others perform in past years.

The 2019 Sunset Concert Series continues the tradition of marquee names performing at Fun Fest and features Newsboys and Sidewalk Prophets (July 18), Tyler Farr, The War and Treaty, and Drake White & The Big Fire (July 19), and Andy Grammer and NeedtoBreathe (July 20). Tickets for all three nights are still available and can be purchased on the Fun Fest website.

Among the other must-see events at this year’s Fun Fest, held July 12-20, is the Fun Fest Parade, the Crazy 8’s 8k Run, various sports tournaments, hot air balloons, Busking Around the World, kids’ fishing derby, The Taste, a maker fair, motorcycle and car shows, kids’ triathlon, Farm Fest, an ice cream walk, dog show, putt-putt tournament and much, much more! A complete list of events can be found HERE.

If you’re a regular and have been to Fun Fest over the years we know you can’t wait to take part in all the fun again! If you haven’t been and are new to the area or just visiting, we welcome you with open arms and look forward to having you experience Fun Fest and the best that Kingsport has to offer!
